Wellesley Volleyball Dominates in 3-0 Win over Mount Holyoke

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Tiffany Shou (San Jose, Calif.) recorded 11 kills and a .786 kill percentage, leading the Blue to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-22) win over Mount Holyoke on Saturday at Dorothy Towne Field House.

The Blue win its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game (1-4) and move to 3-7 overall. The Lyons remain winless (0-6) in the NEWMAC and drop to 3-10 overall.

For the fifth game in-a-row, Nicole Doerges (San Marino, Calif.) finished with 20 or more kills, Doerges had 21 and also added four service aces. Shou set a new career high with 11 kills on 14 total attacks. Junior TylerBell Smith (Frisco, Texas) chipped in with six kills. Sophomore Alexis Stull (Palo Alto, Calif.) played for the first time this season and added two kills.

Junior McKenna Crosby (Jonesborough, Tenn.) led the way for the Lyons with five kills and a .625 attack percentage. Defensively, Lucie Berclaz (Kyogo, Japan) and Sarah Bishop (Rutland, Mass.) each recorded seven digs.

With the first set notched at 2-2, the Blue sparked a 5-0 run and took a 7-2 lead. Doerges recorded two kills in the run and Shou earned one kill. Wellesley made minimal mistakes in the set and cruised to a 25-13 win. The Blue kept the momentum and once again won the next set in dominant fashion. After leading 8-5, Wellesley went on a 5-0 run to open up the lead. Setter Izzy Seebold (Concord, N.C.) assisted on two of the three kills during the run. She finished the contest with a match high 33 assists.

The Lyons put up a fight in the third set, recording nine kills which was their most in any set. After the teams went back and forth, a small run was capped off by a service ace from Claire Bialek (Brookline, Mass.) and gave Wellesley a 13-7 edge. With their backs against the wall, Mount Holyoke scored six of seven points and cut the Blue lead to 23-21. However, senior captain Nicole Doerges decided to put an end to the run and recorded two kills to end the match.

Wellesley volleyball will remain at home for a Tuesday night NEWMAC match with Wheaton on October 5 at 7:00 PM. The Lyons head back home to host Coast Guard, also on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
