Kunze-Hoeg Makes AVCA All-Region Team; Giang Honorable Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 2023 Division III Women's Volleyball All-Region teams and award winners. Wellesley College volleyball sophomore Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) was named to the Region 2 All-Region First Team while first year Kate Giang (Corte Madera, Calif.) received an honorable mention.

The AVCA named 14 All-Region team members and six honorable mention selections for each of the 10 regions. Additionally, a Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year were selected for each region.

Kunze-Hoeg anchored a Wellesley defense that helped guide the Blue to 13 wins this season. Kunze-Hoeg had 495 digs this season, and her 5.05 digs per set ranked third in the NEWMAC. Kunze-Hoeg had at least 10 digs in all 25 games, while also putting together a 96% successful reception rate, and added 106 assists.

Giang, who also earned NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year honors, led the NEWMAC with 3.77 kills per set, placing her in the top-50 in NCAA Division III. Giang's 3.62 kills per set in NEWMAC play was good for third in the league, and tops amongst rookies. Giang also helped Wellesley's defense by averaging 2.43 digs per set.

2023 AVCA Women's Divsion III Regional Awards


The AVCA, an educationally based nonprofit headquartered in Lexington, KY, is the largest and most diverse volleyball coaches' association in the world. With a broad mandate to develop the sport, the AVCA provides leadership, recognition, advocacy, and professional development opportunities to over 8,000 volleyball coaches. Members include college, high school, club, and youth coaches, and well as a wide variety of product and service providers.
