Kelly Takes Title as Blue Cross Country Wins Home Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Six top-ten finishes led the Wellesley College cross country team to the title at their own invitational on Saturday. The Blue recorded a team score of 27 earning a victory in the three-team, 50-runner event.

Southern Maine finished second at the event, recording 30 total points, while Simmons placed third with an 81. The Huskies recorded four top-10 finishes, while the Sharks maintained a tight pack, with each of their scoring runners finishing 14th-19th at the event.

Individually, Wellesley first-year
Meg Kelly took home individual honors, covering the 5K Lake Waban course in 19:35.60. Southern Maine's Hannah Damron and Caitlin Miller were the next across the line, finishing in 19:46.90 and 19:47.10. Wellesley junior Nicole Chui and first-year Sara Vannah rounded out the top five, with Chui finishing in 19:50.70, and Vannah completing the course in 20:04.10. 

Also finishing in the top-10 for the Blue were sophomores
Laura Brindley, Carolyn Chelius, and Heather Smith. Brindley was eighth in 20:29.70, Chelius ranked ninth in 20:33.40, and Smith finished 10th in 20:35.80.

Six other Wellesley runners finished in the top-20 at the event, led by first-year
Edie Sharon (20:40.10) who took 11th and Doris Berman (20:50.00), who placed 12th overall. First-year Kathryn Leahy placed 13th in 20:57.10, followed by senior Ali Grzywna in 14th in 20:59.80. Rounding out the top-20, senior Sarah Roundy took 18th (21:12.00), and senior Jane Lodwick placed 20th (21:23.20). 

After the event, Wellesley honored the class of 2014, as Doris Berman, Ali Grzywna, Jane Lodwick, Skye Roberts, Sarah Roundy, Anna Tupper-Bridges, and Margaret Wehner took part in their final home meet.

Wellesley cross country is back in action next Saturday at the Keene State Invitational.
