Fouda Leads Cross Country at NEICAAA Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – Wellesley College cross country ran to a 19th place finish out of 39 teams at the cross divisional New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) All-New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. 

Division I Boston College took first with a total time of 1:29:41. Wellesley trailed only MIT, Middlebury, and Brandeis among Division III teams in the field, combining for a total time of 1:35:29.

Senior Priyanka Fouda (Wellesley, Mass.) was Wellesley's top finisher, taking 65th with a time 18:48.5. First year Mary Naas (St. Paul, Minn.) was next across the line for the Blue, recording a time of 18:52.9 to earn 77th. Junior Sonja Cwik (La Canada, Calif.) gave Wellesley three finishers in the top-100, taking 96th in 19:06.8.

Seniors Sharon Ng (Sunnyvale, Calif.), 120th, and Alessandra Gavin (Annapolis, Md.), 127th, rounded out the scoring runners for the Blue, recording times of 19:19.6 and 19:22.0, respectively. Junior Edie Sharon (Winchester, Mass.) and senior Carolyn Chelius (Haddonfield, N.J.) also ran for Wellesley. Sharon recorded a time of 19:22.9, while Chelius clocked in at 19:32.8. 

The Blue also competed in the Sub-Varsity event prior to Saturday's varsity race, taking 10th place in the field of 28 teams. Sophomore Isabella King (Cinncinnati, Ohio) was Wellesley's top finisher, taking 22nd overall and scoring 19th with a time of 19:25.2. 

Wellesley cross country will now take aim at its second-consecutive Seven Sisters Championship and 11th in program history next weekend at Haverford College in Haverford, Pa. This year's event is being hosted by Bryn Mawr College.
