Wellesley Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA 2019 Academic Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its All-Academic Teams and All-Academic Individuals for the 2019 season and Wellesley College cross country has earned team honors for the sixth consecutive season. In addition to the Blue earning team recognition, senior Keiko Hilmo (Saint Paul, Minn.), junior April Chu (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) have each been named All-Academic Individuals.

Overall, there were 212 women's teams that received All-Academic honors and 378 women who were named All-Academic Individuals in NCAA Division III. To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale. The Blue earned a cumulative GPA of 3.58.

To qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. Hilmo, a Cognitive & Linguistic Sciences major, was second among Wellesley's runners at this year's regional, taking 60th place with a PR of 22:54.7. Chu, a Media Arts & Sciences major, added a new PR time of 23:05.9 to take 73rd place and Bradbury finished in 90th place with a PR of 23:14.1. Bradbury is currently studying Political Science at Wellesley.

Wellesley took 12th place as a team at the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents thousands of coaching members encompassing NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA and NJCAA, as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
