Wellesley Cross Country Eighth at NCAA East Regional Championship; Whinney All-New England

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) earned All-New England honors and Wellesley College cross country finished eighth out of 40 teams with a score of 241 at the 6k NCAA Division III East Regional Championship hosted by Suffolk at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Saturday.

MIT won the race with a score of 27. Bates placed second with a team score of 81, followed by WPI (100), Tufts (131), and Colby (189). WPI grad student Grace Hadley (North Reading, Mass.) finished first indvidually with a time of 20:48.86. 

Whinney finished sixth out of 231 runners with a personal-best time of 22:15.20. First year Fiona Hanrahan (Falmouth, Maine) also had a top-40 finish; placing 39th with a time of 23:07.51.

Sophomores Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) (56th - 23:33.11), Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) (66th - 23:50.13), and junior Charlotte Adams (Cincinnati, Ohio) (74th - 24:01.50) rounded out the scorers for the Blue. All three set personal bests on Saturday.

Also competing for Wellesley was first year Georgia Harms (Dubuque, Iowa) (76th - 24:03.75) and sophomore Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) (90th - 24:30.01).
