Blue Crew Claims Eleven CRCA Scholar Athlete Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Eleven student-athletes from the 2023 NCAA National Champion Wellesley College crew team have been named 2023 CRCA Scholar Athletes.

Recent graduates Emma Anghel (Windham, Maine), Eleanor Antezana (Seattle, Wash.), Cora Barrett (Tewksbury, Mass.), Anneka Hallstrom (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Gaya Krishna (Houston, Texas), Cricket Liebermann (East Montpelier, Vt.) and Isabella Santos (West Hartford, Conn.), rising seniors Catie Moeser and Kaitlyn Severin (Newton, Mass.) and rising juniors Anya Hanitchak (Andover, Mass.) and Colette Kennedy (Mill Valley, Calif.) have each earned the honor recognizing their academic and athletic achievements.

Krishna earned recognition for a third time, while Anghel, Barrett, Hallstrom, Liebermann, Santos and Severin each earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete recognition for the second time. Hallstrom and Santos were also named CRCA All-Americans earlier this month.

Over 1,000 student-athletes representing 111 institutions earned CRCA Scholar Athlete honors in 2023. Of the 1,000+ to earn these honors, 103 student-athletes had a perfect 4.00 GPAs. 55% of the award winners have average cumulative GPAs of 3.75 or higher.

To qualify, an athlete must meet both academic and athletic requirements, such as being in at least their 2nd year of eligibility and  maintaining an average cum. GPA of 3.50 or higher. Additionally, student-athletes must have rowed in their institution's NCAA or IRA (lightweight) eligible boats for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or race in an NCAA Boat at their Conference Championship/NCAA Championship.

The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association works to promote a positive collegiate rowing experience by fostering a diverse and inclusive community of coaches that value their professional development and promoting equity & leadership within the sport. The CRCA serves as the voice and advocate for its members, in order to grow and promote excellence in collegiate women's rowing.
