Shaz, Blue Cross Country Squad Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass -- The Wellesley College cross country team and sophomore Samara Shaz (New York, N.Y.) have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their outstanding academic performance during the 2018 cross country season. 

Shaz earned the USTFCCCA individual All-Academic award for the first time by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and finishing in the top-25 percent at the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regional. Shaz finished 81st out of 399 runners with a final time of 23:36.22, which set a PR for a 6K course. As a team, the Blue finished 12th out of the 57 teams who competed with a team score of 364. In the classroom, Coach Phil Jennings' squad accumulated a 3.43 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which met the 3.10 GPA minimum requirement set by the USTFCCCA.

The Blue will return their top seven runners from the NCAA Northeast Regionals as they look forward to the the 2019 season.
