Cross Country Wins Women's Navy 6K Race at Suffolk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- For the third time this season, junior Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) finished in first place to lead the Wellesley cross country team to a victory at the Suffolk Invitational on Saturday.

Clocking in with a time of 21:58.9, Marks earned the gold in the 6K Women's Navy Individual race. The Blue came away with a first place finish as a team, earning 38 total points. Senior Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) finished in eighth place out of 174 runners with a time of 24:02.8. Just outside of the top ten was Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) coming in with a solid 24.16.1. Lily Herold placed 18th at 24:32.3 and behind her was Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) at 24.37.3 in 19th place. Also running for the Blue in the Navy event was Amy Tao (Hong Kong, China), Kaylee Hill (Hingham, Mass.), and Maddie Carrington (Morris, Minn.).

Colby College finished as the runner-up with 56 points and were led by Lindsay Michels (South Pasadena, Calif.) who took third place at 23.20.1. Bowdoin finished just two points behind Colby and placed third, while fellow NEWMAC member Wheaton took fourth with a score of 142.

In the 6K Women's Gold race, Wellesley placed fifth out of 12 teams. Simmons and Bowdoin both finished at the top of the leaderboard, each with 69 points. St. Joseph's (Me.) came away with the bronze in the event, totaling 113 points. Wen Li Yau (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) was the top finisher for the Blue, coming in at 26.08.5 which was good for seventh place out of 106 runners. Finishing in 20th place in the event was Alicia Naranjo-Champion. Rounding out the group for the Gold event was Jesenia Lopez (Fontana, Calif.), Bianca Lee (Hong Kong, China), Aidan Reid (Malibu, Calif.), and Emily Wall (Stuyvesant, N.Y.).

The Blue will gear up for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships hosted by Wellelsey at Nehoiden Golf Club on Saturday, October 30, starting at 12:00 PM.
