WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College Athletics hosted its annual Wellesley Athletics & Recreation Awards on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

2023 Wellesley Athletics & Recreation Awards Winners:

Joy Renjilian-Burgy Inspirational Award - Established in 2012, this honor is given to a varsity student-athlete who has inspired others through athletics. The award was renamed in honor of Faculty Athletics Representative Joy Renjilian-Burgy in 2015.

  • Class of 2023 | For their resilience throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic

Friends of Wellesley Athletics Honor Award - Given to those individuals who have rendered outstanding service and support to sports and recreation at Wellesley College.

  • Karen McArthur '82 | Member of Friends of Wellesley College Athletics National Committee and former field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse student-athlete

Linda K. Vaughan AwardGiven to an individual who has demonstrated relentless passion in support of Wellesley's accomplishments in recreational and competitive athletics and who has shown team spirit, creativity, courage and leadership.

  • Bridget Belgiovine | Director of Athletics from 2006-19

Club Sports Outstanding Leadership Award - Given to a senior who best demonstrates leadership in Club Sports by working diligently to make positive and significant contributions to their team and to the Club Sports community.

  • Janeva Nicole Dimen '23 | Water Polo

Outstanding Senior Employee(s) - Given to those who have made significant and positive contributions to the PERA Department, as demonstrated by their leadership skills, going above and beyond, problem solving and commitment to a safe and welcoming environment for the campus community.

  • AK Williams '23 | Athletic Training Room Aide

Rookie of the Year - Established in 2012, Rookie of the Year is awarded to a traditional first-year varsity student-athlete based on athletic performance.

Club Sports Athletic Excellence Award - Given to a senior who has competed in club sports and shown athletic excellence over the course of their career.

  • Tess Dolan '23 | Ultimate Frisbee

Outstanding Senior Athlete - Established in 2012, this award is presented to a graduating student-athlete in recognition of their athletic accomplishments over the course of their entire Wellesley College athletic career.

Barbara Barnes Hauptfuhrer '49 Scholar-Athlete Award - Awarded annually to that Wellesley College senior who best combines excellence in scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and athletic achievement.

Blue Pride AwardGiven to a team that supports other teams at their competitions, shows genuine interest in other teams' successes, demonstrates the best of Wellesley Blue's values through positive sportsmanship, conveys spirit and enthusiasm about their team and sport, and actively participates in Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Wellesley Athletics strives for excellence at the conference at the conference, regional, and national levels, while providing opportunities for students to achieve their potential and learn the values of discipline, leadership, critical thinking, and responsibility to oneself and others.
