Roberts Steps Down; Accepts Role as Director of Athletics Communications at MIT

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Miles Roberts, Director of PERA Communications and New Media in the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (PERA) at Wellesley College has stepped down from his role to accept the position of Director of Athletics Communications at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
"I am excited for Miles to take this next step and to remain close by and in the NEWMAC," said Bethany Ellis, Director of Athletics and Chair of the PERA Department at Wellesley College. "Miles will be leaving all aspects of Communications better than he found them and has been vital in creating efficiencies around many aspects of the Department. He is ready and deserving of this opportunity, but will certainly be very missed. PERA is extremely grateful for his 10-year commitment to Wellesley and our students."
In his new role in MIT's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER), Roberts will oversee a team of three while managing MIT's overall Athletic Communications plan. With 33 varsity sports, MIT supports one of the broadest intercollegiate athletic programs in the world.
"I'm very happy to be joining MIT and the DAPER community," said Roberts. "I want to thank Dr. Anthony Grant and the members of the search committee for this opportunity. I also want to thank the Wellesley College community, Bethany Ellis, and the coaches and staff at Wellesley for the support they have shown me over the past ten years. I've enjoyed the opportunity to tell the story of Wellesley Athletics and I'm looking forward to bringing what I've learned to MIT while also exploring new ways to tell the story of MIT Athletics and its remarkable student-athletes."
As Director of Communications & New Media, Roberts served as part of PERA's Senior Staff leadership team and was responsible for the supervision of departmental communications, social media, and external media support for each of Wellesley's 13 intercollegiate athletic programs. Roberts worked with campus partners including the Office of Communications and Public Affairs to promote PERA's mission and student-athletes and was responsible for the supervision of the Hall of Fame Committee and Friends of Athletics communications as well as supervision of gameday sports information, athletics licensing, trademarking and brand management.
Prior to arriving at Wellesley, Roberts spent four years at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. While at Pine Manor, Roberts served in a variety of roles, including as Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director, Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach.
A 2010 graduate of Boston University with a double major in Political Science and American Studies, Roberts is a member of the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) and the College Sports Communicators (CSC; formerly CoSIDA).
A national search for Wellesley's next Director of PERA Communications will begin immediately.
