Wellesley Athletics Earns Six CSC Academic All-District At-Large Selections

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Six Wellesley College student-athletes have been recognized on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large Team. Crew senior Rachel Shrives (Harvard, Mass.) and junior Colette Kennedy (Mill Valley, Calif.) field hockey seniors Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) and Cassidy Novello (Scotch Plains, N.J.), fencing senior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) and lacrosse senior Gabrielle Shell (Columbus, Ohio) all receive the honor.

The 2023-24 Academic All-District At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The award is given to athletes who in addition to being impactful on their respective team, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, and have achieved second year status at their academic institution.

Kennedy was the coxswain for Blue Crew's Varsity Eight (V8+) boat this season. She led the boat that finished third at the NEWMAC Championships and made the Grand Final of the New England Rowing Championships (NERC) and the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC). Shrives was the Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) coxswain, earning second at the NEWMAC Championships and making the NIRC Grand Final.

Deehr-Lewis stopped 156 shots this season for field hockey, earning eight wins in the cage and a NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honor back in September. Novello recorded four goals, including three against NEWMAC competition, and an assist this season.

Po won 37 dual meet matches as a senior. She picked up eight wins at the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championship to make the EWFC Woman of the Year Team. Po competed in foil at the NCAA Northeast Regional.

Shell recorded 23 goals and 12 assists for Wellesley this season with a team-leading shooting percentage of 57.5. Shell recorded eight points (five goals, three assists) in a senior-day win over Mount Holyoke.
