Wellesley Field Hockey Plays for the Cure

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- On Saturday October 16, the Wellesley field hockey team will participate in the Play 4 the Cure effort in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Wellesley will take on the Smith College Pioneers at 12:00pm in a key NEWMAC contest.  There will be a donations table set up at the field prior to the game with breast cancer information and statistics.

The Play 4 the Cure program was started by Tina Reinprecht, founder, director and coach of the Mystx Field Hockey Club. The movement began with an indoor field hockey tournament in 2006 to benefit breast cancer research. Since then Play 4 the Cure has contributed over $11,000 to the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Last year over 150 field hockey teams from across the country took part part in Play 4 the Cure events.

Ways in which Wellesley will be raising awareness:

  • Coaches will wear pink Wellesley Athletics shirts
  • Officials will wear pink shirts
  • Game will be played using pink balls
  • Pink game programs

All the money raised at this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
