Two Wellesley Field Hockey Players Named NEWMAC All-Conference

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2010 Field Hockey post-season award winners on Tuesday. Wellesley took home two All-Conference awards, as seniors Katie Frett and Kate Cushing were both honored.

Frett caps an outstanding career at Wellesley with her second-straight first team All-Conference selection.  She also earned second team honors in 2007 and 2008, and was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year as a first-year.   This season, Frett was a major contributor for the Blue from the center midfield position, playing a key role in both offensive and defensive corners. She tallied three goals and one assist to finish third on the team in scoring.

Cushing closes her career at Wellesley as a two-time second team All-Conference selection, earning the honor for the last two seasons.  Moving to midfield this season, she played a key role in the offense, using her speed to create opportunities for her teammates, and also playing tenacious defense.  Cushing ended the season with a goal and four assists, with her assist total ranking second on the team.

Wellesley field hockey finished the 2010 season with a 5-11 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in NEWMAC play.
