Frett, Cushing Named to All-Region Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Two members of the Wellesley College field hockey team earned All-Region honors for their play in the 2010 season.  Blue seniors Katie Frett and Kate Cushing represented Wellesley on the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA New England East Region team.

Frett earned first-team honors, making her a four-time All-Region selection. She was a major contributor for the Blue from the center midfield position, playing a key role in both offensive and defensive corners. Frett, also a four-time All-NEWMAC selection, tallied three goals and one assist to finish third on the team in scoring in 2010. The Hallowell, Maine native finishes her field hockey career at Wellesley with 24 goals and five assists for 53 total points.

Cushing earned second team honors, making her a repeat All-Region selection.  Moving to midfield this season, she played a key role in the offense, using her speed to create opportunities for her teammates, and also playing tenacious defense.  Cushing, a Danvers, Massachusetts, native, ended the season with a goal and four assists, with her assist total ranking second on the team.  In her career with the Blue, she tallied 19 goals and 23 assists totaling 61 points for Wellesley.

Wellesley field hockey finished the 2010 season with a 5-11 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in NEWMAC play.
