Wellesley Fall Teams Earn National Academic Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Two Wellesley College fall athletic teams recently earned national academic honors.  The Blue cross country team and field hockey teams were recognized for their efforts in the classroom for the fall season. 

The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wellesley's cross country team as one of the 2010 Division III All-Academic Cross Country teams. The squad came in with a cumulative team GPA of 3.32. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the team must have compiled a score at the NCAA regional championship, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Sophomore Randelle Boots was received national All-Academic Cross Country Individual honors. This past fall Boots placed fourth at NCAA Regionals. She then finished the fall season with a 25th place finish in the 6-kilometer race at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships, earning All-American honors. Qualifications for the academic award are maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater through the most recent semester, and finishing within the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.

The Wellesley College field hockey team has received the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Team Award. The award recognizes teams that maintain an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher during the fall semester of the 2010-2011 school year.

Twelve field hockey players were named as individuals to the NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad. To qualify, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the fall, 2010 semester. Wellesley field hockey players receiving the honor were Alex Azzi '14, Kate Cushing '11, Molly Cyr '13, Katie Frett '11, Kaitlyn Kirkaldy '14, Emily Lewis '13, Alison Mehan '11, Sarah Mohtes-Chan '11, Whitney Reid '12, Allison Robbins '13, Sarina Sawyer '11, and Elizabeth Stockman '14.
