Field Hockey Downs Gordon in Dramatic 1-0 Game

Field Hockey Downs Gordon in Dramatic 1-0 Game

WENHAM, Mass. -- The Wellesley College field hockey team posted a dramatic 1-0 victory over Gordon College on the road on Saturday morning.

After 69 minutes of scoreless field hockey, first-years Lallie Lukens and Nathalie Gruet connected to score the game-winner with :37 seconds remaining in the game.

Despite strong offensive fronts from both teams in the first half which challenged Wellesley keeper Brit Mscisz  to make four saves and Gordon netminder Anna Bury to turn away five, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the break.

The second half proved to be a different story and much more heavily defensive as neither team allowed any significant scoring opportunities.

Just as the game was looking to be headed towards overtime, however, Wellesley's Lukens broke the long silence to hand the host Scots the loss.

With the loss Gordon moves to 1-1 overall on the season while Wellesley improves to an unbeaten 2-0.

The Scots return to play on September 6 as they travel to face Babson in a non-conference matchup. Wellesley travels to New England College on September 7th, playing a 4:00pm game.
