Blue Field Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Win Over Ithaca

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College field hockey team moved to 4-0 on the season, with a commading 5-1 win over Ithaca College on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. The loss drops Ithaca to 0-2 this season.

Wellesley's defense held the Bombers to 10 total shots, as the Blue out-shot their opponents 23-10. Wellesley keepers Brit Mscisz and Becky Hamilton split time in goal, allowing their first goal against of the season, but needing just two saves each to earn the win.

The Blue opened the scoring early in the first half, as two quick goals put Wellesley ahead 2-0 after just nine minutes of play. First-year Lallie Lukens scored both first half goals, with senior Whitney Reid assisting on the initial score.

Reid added a score of her own (assisted by Nathalie Gruet), with just over one second remaining in the period, increasing the Wellesley advantage to 3-0.

After the break, Emily Lewis scored off of a Reid assist to increase the home lead to 4-0. Ithaca then got one back, as Julia Conroy found the back of the cage to pull to within three goals with 10 to play. Wellesley, however, iced the game with a Lewis score in the 64th minute to set the final to 5-1 Blue.

Wellesley is back in action at home on Wednesday, playing Bowdoin College at 4:30pm. Ithaca also plays on Wednesday, hosting William Smith at 7:00pm.
