Robbins' OT Game-Winner Leads Field Hockey Over MIT

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Junior Allison Robbins scored the overtime game-winner as the Wellesley College field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over MIT in a key New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up on Tuesday afternoon in Wellesley.

Robbins intercepted an MIT pass and carried the ball to the edge of the circle where she ripped a shot from the right side. The hard-hit ball caromed off an MIT foot and into the cage for the golden goal, her second score of the season.

The victory improves Wellesley to 4-2 in conference play, 8-7 overall, positioning the Blue in at least a tie for second place in the NEWMAC standings. MIT, the current league leader, falls to 5-2 in the NEWMAC, 13-3 overall.

The Engineers got on the board first, after Molly Duffy scored her 10th goal of the season on a Kimberly Barker assist. The score, coming off a second attempt on a penalty corner, gave MIT a 1-0 lead at the 10-minute mark.

Wellesley tied the game late in the second half, as a well-executed penalty corner score knotted the game at 1-1 in the 49th minute.  The Blue's Emily Lewis rocketed a shot that was deflected by Alex Azzi for the sophomore's second goal of the season.

MIT recorded two corners and four shots over the final 10 minutes of regulation, but two saves from Blue keeper Brit Mscisz sent the game into OT where Robbins would win it for Wellesley.

The Engineers held a slim 14-12 advantages in shots, while also edging the Blue, 6-4 in penalty corners.

Wellesley's Mscisz totaled nine saves, including two in the overtime period, earning the win between the pipes. MIT's Casey Landry played the first half in goal for the Engineers, not needing a save in 35 minutes of scoreless work. Jenna Klein made four saves, earning the loss for MIT.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, playing an 11:00am NEWMAC game at WPI. MIT is idle until Wednesday, October 26th at 6:00pm, when the Engineers travel to the University of New England for a non-conference clash.
