Wellesley Field Hockey Shuts Out UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Visiting Wellesley scored three goals in the second half to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Tuesday evening. The win improves the Blue to 9-8 overall, while the Corsairs' season mark also shifts to 9-8.

Wellesley outshot UMass Dartmouth, 4-0 in the first half, but couldn't push a goal across, and the teams went into the break with a 0-0 tie.

Five minutes into the second period, Wellesley first-year Nathalie Gruet broke the tie when she converted a pass from junior Allison Robbins to give the Blue a 1-0 advantage. First-year Lallie Lukens made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal just under four minutes later.

Robbins later capped the scoring when she re-directed a pass from sophomore midfielder Alex Azzi off a penalty corner at 47:11, giving the Blue a 3-0 lead, which they would hold on to for the victory.

Overall, the Blue outshot the Corsairs, 14-4. Sophomore goalkeepers Lauren O'Brien and Kelsey Gallo combined to make seven saves for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore Brit Mscisz made four stops to earn the win for Wellesley.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Mount Holyoke Thursday evening. Wellesley will host Clark on Saturday, playing a key NEWMAC match-up at 12:00pm.
