Blue Field Hockey Rolls in 7-0 Win over New England College

WELLESLEY, Mass. – A dominate offense and a stifling defense led the Wellesley College field hockey team to a 7-0 shutout over New England College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifts the Blue to 2-0, while the Pilgrims fall to 0-3.

Wellesley out-shot NEC 30-7, including holding a 20-1 advantage in first half shots. The Blue also posted a 9-4 edge in total penalty corners.

Five first half goals from the Blue built up a lead that was too large for the Pilgrims to overcome. Emily Lewis recorded a hat trick in the half, upping her season goal total to five.  Allison Robbins also put one in the back of net for her second score of the year. Rounding out the first half offense, Olivia Dumont recorded the first goal of her career.

In the second half, Wellesley added scores from Allie Farber and Lallie Lukens, pushing the final to 7-0 in favor of the Blue.

Lewis ended the game with six points for Wellesley, while Lukens added three. Hannah Flesch recorded two assists and Nanaki Atal picked up a helper to round out the Wellesley offense.

Brit Mscisz started the game in cage for the Blue, while Becky Hamilton came on in the second half and recorded four saves.

For New England College, Kate Roberge led the offense with two total shots, while Courtney Duquette posted 11 saves in goal. Also aiding the defense, Jaclyn Papagni recorded four defensive saves for the Pilgrims.

Wellesley is back in action this Saturday, traveling to Ithaca College for a 12:00pm match-up with the Bombers. New England College continues their road trip with a 12:00pm game against Gordon College, also on Saturday.
