Gruet Named Regional Player of the Year; Blue Place Five on All-Region Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College field hockey team placed a region-best five players on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-New England East Region team. The Blue were led by New England East Region Player of the Year, junior Nathalie Gruet, who also earned first-team All-Region honors.

Joining Gruet with first-team All-Region selections were senior
Brit Mscisz and junior Meghan Peterson. The Blue also had a pair of second team selections in sophomores Hannah Flesch and Anissa Sridhar

Gruet earns Regional Player of the Year honors after leading the Blue in scoring with 39 points this season. The 2013 NEWMAC Player of the Year as well, she picked up 17 goals and five assists with seven game-winning scores. A repeat first-team All-Region selection, this is Gruet's second-straight first-team honor, after being named to the All-Region second team as a rookie in 2011. 

Mscisz earns her first All-Region honor to go along with a first-team All-NEWMAC selection. Wellesley's starting goalkeeper, she recorded a goals against average of 0.96 this season with an .800 save percentage. Mscisz ended her career at Wellesley with 38 wins and over 3,700 minutes played. She also compiled 225 career saves with a 1.23 career goals against average. In addition to her All-Region nod, Mscisz was selected to play in the North-South Senior All-Star game on Saturday, November 22nd. Wellesley head coach Julia King will coach the North squad for the game. 

Peterson makes her first appearance on the All-Region team after being named a first-team All-NEWMAC selection earlier this season. The junior led the Wellesley defense to a 0.94 goals against average this season from the center back position. Peterson also contributed to Wellesley's balanced offense, recording 13 points on a goal and 11 assists.

Flesch earns All-Region honors for the first time after two-straight All-NEWMAC selections. The sophomore finished third on Wellesley in scoring, compiling eight goals and a team-leading 14 assists on the season. She also recorded a pair of game-winning goals this season, while adding an assist on the game-winner in overtime as the Blue defeated Mount Holyoke for the NEWMAC title.

Sridhar was named to the All-Region team for the first time in her career after earning her first All-NEWMAC honor earlier this season. A speedy offensive threat for the Blue, she ended the season with 23 total points on 11 goals and one assist. Sridhar had three game-winning goals this season, including the overtime goal that gave Wellesley the 2013 NEWMAC Championship over Mount Holyoke. 

The Wellesley field hockey team closed out a historic season with an 18-4 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight. The 2013 Blue set a program record in wins and won the NEWMAC title for the first time since 2002.
