Wellesley Field Hockey Places Two on All-America Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Two Wellesley College field hockey players took home national awards this week, earning spots on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America list. The Blue were represented by junior midfielder Nathalie Gruet and senior goalkeeper Brit Mscisz

Gruet was named to the NFHCA first-team, while Mscisz was an NFHCA third team selection. The All-America awards are the first for Wellesley since Lydia Parzych '07 earned the distinction in 2006. In addition, the two Wellesley selections marked the first time that the program boasted multiple All-Americans since the 2002 season, when Betsy Masiello '03 and Marret Arfsten '03 represented the Blue on the national list.

Gruet earned her All-America honor after being named both New England East and NEWMAC Player of the Year. She was a repeat first-team All-Region and All-Conference selection, and makes her first appearance on the All-America list. Gruet led the Blue in scoring, with 17 goals and five assists this season, totaling 39 points in 2013.

This season, Gruet averaged 1.77 points per game, and also hit a team-high with seven game-winning goals. She was part of the offense that ranked eighth nationally in penalty corners per game, while also being a key player on the defense that ranked ninth in the nation with a 0.94 goals against average.

Mscisz gained her All-America nod after earning her first All-Region and All-Conference honors this season. Wellesley's starting goalkeeper, she compiled 76 saves, 6 shutouts, and a 0.96 goals against average in 2013. Her goals against average ranked her 10th in the nation, and she also ranked in the top-30 in save percentage (0.80).

In her career at Wellesley, Mscisz compiled 38 wins with 225 saves. She recorded 10 career shutouts, including blanking opponents in this season's NEWMAC Championship game against Mount Holyoke and Wellesley's second-round NCAA game against Ursinus. Mscisz also wraps her career with a 1.23 goals against average and a 0.76 save percentage.

The Wellesley field hockey team closed out a historic season with an 18-4 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight. The 2013 Blue set a program record in wins and won the NEWMAC title for the first time since 2002.
