No. 6 Wellesley Field Hockey Will Face No. 3 Smith To Open NEWMAC Tournament

2017 NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship Bracket

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 6 Wellesley College field hockey will play at No. 3 Smith College in the quarterfinals of the 2017 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Championship on Tuesday, October 31, at 7:00 PM. 

The NEWMAC championship consists of six teams that will compete for the title which will begin on Tuesday, October 31st with the quarterfinal round. NEWMAC regular season champion Babson  (8-0) has earned the No. 1 seed, a first round bye, and the right to host the semifinal and championship rounds. MIT (7-1) has also advanced to the semifinal round after earning the No. 2 seed. In the second quarterfinal, No. 4 Mount Holyoke (5-3) will host No. 5 Springfield (4-4) for the right to take on Babson in the semifinals on Saturday, November 4, at 11:00 AM. 

No. 3 Smith (5-3) will meet No. 6 Wellesley (3-5) in the NEWMAC postseason for the first time since the Blue earned a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the Pioneers in the semifinals of the 2015 NEWMAC Championship. Smith defeated the Blue, 2-0, on September 23 of this season, getting an eight save performance from senior Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y.) to take the win on the Blue's home turf. The winner of the Wellesley at Smith match-up will play MIT at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Babson.

The semifinal winners will then take the field at 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 5, at Babson to compete for the NEWMAC crown.

Winner No. 3/6 vs. No. 2 MIT – 2:00 p.m.   

Championship: Sunday (at Babson)
