Wellesley Field Hockey Falls at Worcester State, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision to Worcester State University on Thursday evening at Coughlin Field. 

Worcester State senior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) racked up three goals and one assist to lead the Lancers (3-0 overall). Wellesley senior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) scored her second goal of the season in the setback for the Blue (1-2). 

Hopkins got Worcester State on the board early with a goal assisted by senior Cassidy Windler (Holden, Mass.). Senior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) scored just two minutes later off a touch from Hopkins to make the score 2-0 before the end of the first quarter. 

The Blue continued to trail 2-0 into the fourth before junior Sarah Timmons (Madison, N.J.) set-up Maisano to make the score 2-1 with just over 11 minutes left in regulation. However, Hopkins and the Lancers quickly regained a two-goal cushion when the Worcester State senior responded less than a minute later to make the score 3-1. Hopkins then finished her hat trick with 1:11 left on the clock to seal the the 4-1 Worcester State win. 

Wellesley junior Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made seven saves in the setback (1-2). Sophomore Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) made three stops to pick-up the victory (3-0) for the Lancers.

Wellesley travels to Bridgewater State on Wednesday, September 11, for a 5:00 PM game. Worcester State plays at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, September 7, at 1:00 PM.
