Wellesley Softball Takes Two From Endicott

BEVERLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College softball team used five home runs and two solid pitching performances to grab a doubleheader sweep on the road at Endicott College on Wednesday. The Blue won game one, 11-2, and took game two, 8-5.

The wins improve Wellesley to 15-7 overall, while Endicott falls to 13-6-1.

In game one, the Blue pounded out a season-high 16 total hits, en route to the 11-2 victory. Endicott struck first, with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Wellesley countered with nine-unanswered runs to open a 9-1 lead. Endicott scored in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the mercy rule, but Wellesley added two more in the top of the seventh to seal the 11-2 win.

Endicott opened the scoring with a triple and a double in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Wellesley then got things started on its end in the top of the second inning as Emilyrose Havrilla connected for a two-run homerun. The Blue pushed two more across, including an RBI single from Jaclyn Tsang, taking a 4-1 lead.

The Blue added four more in the top of the third, started by another home run from Havrilla, her team-high seventh of the season. Anna Pisac and Ashtyn Coleman blasted RBI doubles in the inning, while Abby Casey added an RBI single to make it 8-1 Blue. 

After a scoreless fourth inning for both sides, Wellesley earned their ninth run of the game in the top of the fifth off a Pisac home run. The Blue and Green answered back in the bottom of the fifth when Emily Hoffman used an RBI single to make it 9-2.

Wellesley struck for two more runs, as Mariah Philips and Tsang each added RBI in the top of the seventh, pushing the Blue advantage to 11-2. Lindsay Johnson then sealed the win, striking out the final two batters of the game. 

Casey went 3-for-3 at the plate in game one, scoring three runs and driving in one. Havrilla finished 2-for-3 with two homeruns a game-high three RBI, while Tsang and Pisac drove in two runs each. Rounding out the Blue offense, Ashtyn Coleman, Kendra Coleman, and Pisac added two-hit performances.

In the circle, Johnson got the win, allowing two earned runs while scattering eight hits. She struck out nine batters while walking only one.

In game two, Wellesley jumped out to a 6-0 lead, backed by a two-RBI single from Kendra Coleman and solo RBIs from Tsang, Ellis, and LaBouyer. Endicott made things interesting, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the lead to 6-5. Wellesley fired back with solo home runs from Casey and Tsang and then shut down the Gulls in the bottom of the seventh for the win. 

Tsang finished game two 3-for-4 with three runs score and two RBI, while Kendra Coleman also drove in a pair of runs. Casey added a two-hit game, while Maria LaBouyer, Jayne Ellis, and Casey also drove in runs in the win. 

Amber Braun picked up the win in the circle for the Blue, throwing seven innings, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts.

Wellesley now gets back to conference play, heading to Wheaton on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm.
