WELLESLEY, Mass. - Springfield won two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games over Wellesley College softball on Saturday.

First year Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) had the big bat for the Pride (21-3 Overall, 6-0 NEWMAC) with six hits and three RBIs on the day. First year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) had three RBIs for the Blue (2-13-1 Overall, 0-4 NEWMAC) while classmate Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) had six hits on the day.

Game 1 | Springfield 5, Wellesley 3 | Final

A late sixth inning surge closed out a 5-3 win for Springfield in a back and forth game.

The Pride opened game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first. First year Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and junior Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) each had RBI singles before the blue halved the deficit in the bottom of the first when Lundin drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Springfield put another run on the board in the second, courtesy of an RBI double from DeRosa.

In the fourth the Blue tied the game up at 3-3 when senior Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) knocked in two runs with a triple, though the Blue were unable to grab the lead themselves.

The Pride took advantage of an error in the bottom of the sixth to go up 4-3, before senior Dana Serricchio stole the plate on a double steal to make it 5-3. Junior Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) closed out the game for the Pride on the mound.

DeRosa started for Springfield while Gell pitched the final three innings. Both had three strikeouts. Senior Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) went all seven innings for Wellesley, striking out a pair of batters. Springfield had 12 hits to Wellesley's six.

Game 2 | Springfield 6, Wellesley 2 | Final

A four-run second inning was the spark plug for Springfield who swept the series with a 6-2 win in game two.

Springfield took an early lead when a throwing error allowed senior Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, R.I.) to score.

The Pride's big second inning began with a two-run single up the middle from DeRosa. Another single, this time through the left side of the infield from grad student Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) ramped the lead up to 4-0. The fifth run of the game came on a single to left field from junior Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.).

Wellesley cut into the deficit in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs scoring on a single to left from Lundin. Neither team scored again until the top of the seventh, when Pecchia drove in a run. Wellesley was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, with Springfield coming up with a 6-2 victory.

Grad student Gillian Kane (New Canaan, Conn.) pitched five innings of two for Springfield, while junior Ashley Pugliese (Huntington Station, N.Y.) struck out two in relief.

Sgambati struck out one for the Blue, while sophomore Kate Liston (Boulder, Colo.) earned three strikeouts over five innings of relief. Delgado had three hits for the Blue and scored a run.

The Blue will host Brandeis for non-conference games at 3:00 and 5:00 PM on Wednesday while the Pride play at Amherst at the same time on Wednesday.
