WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College softball split a pair of extra innings NEWMAC games with Coast Guard Academy on Sunday. First year Sarah Wicker (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) twirled a gem with six strikeouts over eight innings to collect the win for the Blue (12-12 Overall, 5-5 NEWMAC) in game two.

Senior Lillia Farlow (Carrollton, Texas) hit an important home run for the Bears (7-11 Overall, 6-2 NEWMAC) to see her team to victory in game one.

Game 1 | Coast Guard 6, Wellesley 4 | Final (8 Innings)

A late three-run burst in extra innings sent the Bears past the Blue.

Down 3-2 with two outs in the top of the seventh, Farlow uncorked a shot over the left-center fence to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the eighth, first year Abriana Schmutz (Marysville, Ohio) brought home a pair of runs with a single up the middle. Schmutz later crossed the plate on a throwing error.

Wellesley attempted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth. First year Emily Kulhanek (Newbury Park, Calif.) hit an RBI single up the middle to put two runners on base for the Blue. Senior Isabelle Shroyer (Marysville, Ohio) induced a popup and a fly out to center field to stop the momentum and earn a win for Coast Guard.

The Blue scored two runs in the top of the first. Wicker drilled a single down the left line that scored a run. Kulhanek followed it up with a double to center that plated Wicker.

A pair of wild pitches brought in two runs for the Bears in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2 after one frame.

Kulhanek hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to give Wellesley a 3-2 lead, setting up Coast Guard's late game homer.

Shroyer threw all eight innings with four strikeouts for Coast Guard. First year Jillian Colgan (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded four strikeouts over six innings in the circle. Junior Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) fanned one in two innings. Both teams earned seven base hits.

Game 2 | Wellesley 2, Coast Guard 1 | Final (8 Innings)

With Wicker in command in the circle, Wellesley used a late run in extras to earn a walkoff win.

In the bottom of the eighth the Blue scored the winning run when first year Alena Mulhern (Kingston, Mass.) crossed the plate on an error at shortstop.

Coast Guard scored its initial run in the top of the second inning. Shroyer came home on a single through the right side by senior Julia Breidenthal (Leawood, Kan.).

The Blue responded in the bottom of the fourth when first year Diana Borrison (San Jose, Calif.) drove in senior Julz Vargas (Los Angeles, Calif.) on a single to right center.

Wellesley nearly had a walkoff in the bottom of the seventh, but center fielder Christine Carey (San Diego, Calif.) threw a runner out at the plate.

Sophomore Dana Walker (Macon, Ga.) tossed all seven innings for the Bears and registered a strikeout. Wellesley outhit Coast Guard 9-4.
