Wellesley Concludes Season Against Smith, Falls 74-31

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Smith took an early lead and never looked back in a 74-31 victory over Wellesley College basketball to conclude the Blue's season on Saturday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Prior to the game the Blue recognized seniors Taylor Hirn (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), Pujita Shukla (Austin, Texas), Rachel Shurberg (Fairfax, Va.), and Camille Taylor (Boston, Mass.) for their contributions to the Wellesley basketball program.

The Pioneers (24-1 Overall, 10-0 NEWMAC) were led by senior Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich.) with a 14 point-10 rebound double-double. Graduate student Dashelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, Calif.) was Smith's leader in assists (6) and steals (4) while junior Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif.) put up 13 points off the bench.

Junior Jiyun Chae (Chantilly, Va.) had the high mark for the Blue (8-16 Overall, 2-8 NEWMAC) with 14 points while sophomore Sairah O'Brien-Forde (Binghamton, N.Y.) added eight points and six rebounds. 

The Pioneers shot a notable 42.9% (12-for-28) from behind the arc while also pulling down 52 rebounds on the game.

Smith will now look ahead to the NEWMAC Championship tournament, the top-seeded Pioneers will host a semifinal match-up on Febraury 24 at 7:00 PM.
