Fencing Goes Undefeated at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Wellesley College fencing team posted a perfect 7-0 record at this weekend's Vassar Invitational.  The Blue picked up victories over CCNY, Drew, Hunter, Yeshiva, Steven's Institute of Technology, West Point and Haverford.

The Blue's foil squad had an outstanding weekend, going 7-0.  They posted four sweeps, and two 8-1 victories.  Their only real test came against Haverford where the team pulled out a 5-4 victory.

The epee squad also had a dominating weekend as Wellesley went 6-1.  The Blue posted three sweeps with their only loss coming at the hands of Steven's Institute of Technology.

In sabre, the Blue went a successful 5-2.  The squad swept both Yeshiva and Hunter, while dropping tight 5-4 bouts to Haverford and Steven's.

As a team against Hunter, Wellesley posted a 27-0 victory for their first full sweep of the year.  The Blue were also dominating as a team against Drew, where they won 25-2, and against Yeshiva, CCNY, and West Point, as Wellesley won posted three 24-3 wins. 

Wellesley's only close bouts came against Steven's and Haverford.  In the match against Steven's, the Blue's 9-0 result in foil carried the team to a 17-0 overall win.  Against Haverford, the epee squad's 6-3 margin was enough to carry Wellesley to a 15-12 team victory.

The Blue return to action on Saturday at 8:00am competing at the New England Conference Meet hosted by MIT.
