Wellesley Fencing Completes Season at NCAA Regional

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College fencing team closed out the 2011-12 season with six fencers competing at the 2012 NCAA Northeast Regional held at Boston College on Sunday.

Wellesley was represented by foil fencers Carla The and Olivia Wei, sabre fencers Zsofia Schweger and Dania Wright, and epee fencers Elise Dong and Kathryn Ledbetter.

The, a first-year, led the way for Wellesley advancing to the third round of pool play. She went 3-1 in the opening round and picked up three wins in the second, before ending the day in 21st place competing at her first NCAA event. 

Also advancing out of the first pool play round were Schweger, a senior, and Wright, a sophomore. Schweger picked up two wins in the first round before finishing with an overall ranking of 33, her best finish at the NCAA event. Wright picked up three victories in the first round and finished 32nd overall, also a personal best NCAA finish.

Other competitors fenced strong competing at their first NCAA event. Wei finished 41st overall in foil, while in epee, Ledbetter and Dong tied for 45th place.
