Wellesley's Maurer, Calventus-Coveney, Kimura Earn NFC Fencing All-Star Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Three members of the Wellesley College fencing team have earned Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) All-Star honors for the 2019-20 season. Senior Brie Maurer (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned a third career honor and a spot on the NFC Foil Second Team. Junior Julia Calventus-Coveney (Barcelona, Spain) and first year Kimberley Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.) were both named to the Second Team in Epee. The honor is also the third for Calventus-Coveney.

Brie Maurer | Sr. | Fredericksburg, Va. | Second Team Foil
 
Maurer was named to the Second Team in foil for the third time in her career, posting a 26-6 record in two NFC competitions. Her 81.25% victory percentage was good for fourth in the conference in foil, making her the top ranked fencer on the foil second team. She posted a record of 10-5 at the first NFC Meet of the season and was 16-1 in the final NFC Meet of the season last weekend at Tufts. Maurer has a dual meet record of 55-20 this season.
 
Julia Calventus-Coveney | Jr. | Barcelona, Spain | Second Team Epee
 
One of the top epee fencers in the NFC for the last three seasons, Calventus-Coveney topped the 60-win plateau for the third straight season while going 27-7 in NFC competition. Calventus-Coveney finished the year fourth on the foil leaderboard to earn All-Star honors for the third time in as many seasons. She finished the year with a 79.41% victory percentage, posting records of 12-4 and 15-3 in her two NFC meet appearances.

Kimura finished percentage points behind Calventus-Coveney in the epee standings as the Blue boasted one of the top epee squads in the conference in 2020. Kimura earned her first NFC All-Star recognition with a 25-8 record, recording a 75.76% victory percentage in her 33 bouts. Kimura was 10-5 at NFC Meet No. 1 and 15-3 at the final NFC Meet and is 54-26 overall in her first year of collegiate competition.

Founded in 1992, the Northeast Fencing Conference's mission is to support intercollegiate fencing in and around New England. The league organizes a round-robin schedule of dual meet competitions for the fencing programs at all member institutions. The member institutions are a mix of both NCAA varsity programs and student-organized club programs.
