POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Wellesley fencing went an undefeated 8-0 on Sunday at the Vassar Invitational in New York.

Sophomore Nerine Uyanik (San Jose, Calif.) of the foil team finished the day with a perfect 14-0 record and improved her season record to 34-2. First year Samantha Renton (Rockville, Md.) also did not lose a match, finishing 12-0 for the day and Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) went 12-1 for foil. Epee teammates Sam Wolstenholme-Britt (Cary, N.C.) and Elena Vona (Millstone, N.J.) each finished their day with a 15-3 record. First year Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) led the sabre squad with a winning 9-5 record and Brooke Dodrill (Boca Raton, Fla.) was just behind her at 8-5. 

Wellesley 14, Stevens 13

The opening match of the day was the closest for the Blue, with Sejal Saxena (Chappaqua, N.Y.) going 3-0 in foil. The epee team earned a hard fought 5-4 with Kimberley Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Wolstenholme-Britt each going 2-1. Burch and Dodrill each picked up a win in sabre.

Wellesley 25, Fairleigh Dickinson 2

The Blue dominated against FDU with epee going 9-0 as a squad. Foil and sabre each went 8-1 as Wellesley had seven total participants go undefeated in the contest.

Wellesley 25, Vassar 2

For the second consecutive match the Blue earned a huge 25-2 win. Sabre and foil each went 9-0 and Panya Tang (Toronto, Ontario) went a solid 2-1 in epee.

Wellesley 24, Yeshiva 3

The Blue cruised to another victory with only foil and epee competing against Yeshiva. Wolstenholme-Britt, Tang, and Vona all went 3-0 in epee and Uyanik and Renton continued their undefeated days with 3-0 wins in foil.

Wellesley 14, LIU 13

After falling to the Sharks of LIU 14-13 back in October, Wellesley earned its revenge in a one point win on Sunday. Junior Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.) stepped up earning two big points in foil. Both Kimura and Wolstenholme-Britt went 2-1 in their respective matches.

Wellesley 24, Hunter 3

The Blue got back to dominate fashion with 9-0 efforts in both foil and epee and a 6-3 win in sabre. In her first competition of the day, Candice Xie (Jiangsu, China) went 2-1 for the sabre team to help the Blue.

Wellesley 21, Sacred Heart 6

The foil team continued its dominance with Gilioli, Renton, Po, and Uyanik all winning matches. Wolstenholme-Britt and Kimura went 3-0 and Burch finished 2-1 in sabre.

Wellesley 24, Haverford 3

The final contest of the day ended in a 24-3 Wellesley win over Haverford. Foil and epee once again finished a combined 18-0 and sabre went 6-3.

The Blue will next compete at the NFC Conference Meet No. 1 on Saturday, November 20, hosted by MIT in Cambridge starting at 10:00 AM.
