Blue Fencing Has Two Top-Twenty Finishes at NCAA Northeast Regional

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Wellesley College fencing concluded their season on Sunday  with 11 fencers competing at Harvard in the NCAA Northeast Regional.

Senior Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.) and first year Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) advanced to the semifinals in foil to give Wellesley their first top-20 finishes at the NCAA Northeast Regional since 2020. In addition to Gilioli, senior Kimberley Kimura (Los Angeles, Caif.), sophomore Elena Vona (Bernardsville, N.J.), and first year Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) all reached the quarterfinals and placed in the top-30 for epee.

Women's Foil

Gilioli and Huang both advanced out of their initial pools to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals Gilioli went 4-2 with a -1 ratio while Huang went 2-4 with a -1 as they both qualified for the semifinals in the top-21. 

In the semifinals Huang went 1-5 (-16) while Gilioli went 0-6 (-20) to finish 18th and 20th respectively.

Senior Sejal Saxena (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and junior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) each went 1-3 with a -5 and -6 touch ratio in their pools and placed 43rd and 44th.

Women's Epee

Kimura and Vona both went 3-1 in their pools to reach the quarterfinal. Xu had a bye into the quarterfinals.

Vona and Xu both went 2-4 (-4 and -8 ratio) in the quarterfinals, while Kimura went 1-5 (-7) as none advanced to the semifinals. Vona finished 22nd overall, with Xu and Kimura finishing 26th and 27th.

First year Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.) went 1-3 with a -4 touch ratio in the initial pool and did not advance, finishing tied for 45th.

Women's Sabre

Senior Hunter Dodrill (Boca Raton, Fla.) went 1-3 with a -7 touch ratio in the initial round but did not advance, finishing 46th. Sophomores Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) and Mia Chao (Washington, D.C.) both went 0-4 in their pools, finishing 49th and tied for 50th.
