Four Wellesley Fencers Earn USFCA DIII All-American Recognition

Four Blue fencers were named to the USFCA Division III All-American teams.

WELLESLEY, Mass. - On Thursday the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) announced the All-American selections for the 2022-23 season. Among those honored were Wellesley seniors Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.), Kimberley Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first years Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) and Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario).

Huang earned a place as a Division III First Team All-American in foil, while Gilioli was named a Division III Second Team All-American in foil. Xu also received Division III Second Team All-American recognition in epee while Kimura was a Division III Honorable Mention All-American in epee. Kimura and Gilioli both previously received Division III Second Team All-American honors in 2022.

Huang won 51 dual meet matches this season, and finished 18th in foil at the NCAA Regionals. Gilioli won 46 dual meet matches, placed eighth in foil at the NEIFC Championships, and finished 20th in foil at the NCAA Regionals. Xu won 74 dual meet matches this year, earned a gold medal in epee at the NEIFC Championships and placed 26th in epee at the NCAA Regionals. Kimura won 73 dual meet matches, earned the silver medal in epee at the NEIFC Championships, and placed 27th in epee at the NCAA Regionals.

The USFCA recognizes the top Division III fencers in the country with Division III All-American awards. The recipients of these awards are determined by an evaluation of their regular season performance and postseason performance, including both NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
