Wellesley Fencing to Send 11 Members to NCAA Northeast Regional

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College fencing will have 11 student-athletes represent the Blue at this weekend's NCAA Northeast Regional. Competition takes place at Long Island University's Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y. on Sunday, March 10.

The Blue will see a mix of classes represented at NCAA Regionals, with one senior, one junior, five sophomores, and four first years making up the qualifiers. Sophomore Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) made the semifinals and placed 18th in foil at the NCAA Northeast Regional last year. Sophomore Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) had a top-30 finish.

Admission will be free to all spectators. Following a play-in round of competition, all quarterfinals will have 35 fencers (unless there are less than 35 entries), all semifinals will have 21 fencers, and all finals will have 12 fencers. 

The top nine fencers in each weapon will qualify for the for the National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championship, which will be held from March 21-24 at Ohio State's French Field House in Columbus, Ohio.
