Five Members of Blue Fencing Selected to EWFC All-Conference Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College fencing placed five team members on the EWFC All-Conference Team at last Sunday's Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championships. Additionally, senior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) earned a spot on the EWFC Woman of the Year Team and junior Mia Chao (Washington, D.C.) received the All-Academic Team accolade.

Po was selected to represent the Blue on the EWFC Woman of the Year Team after tallying eight victories and helping guide the Blue to a 5-1 team performance.

First years Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) and Phoebe Li (Palo Alto, Calif.) both made the semifinals round of the individual foil bracket. The duo tied for third place overall and each made the EWFC First Team All-Conference for foil.

Sophomore Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) placed sixth out of 20 in the individual epee competition to collect EWFC Second Team All-Conference honors. First year Riley Weed (Guilford, Conn.) came in 12th in her first year of competition.

Junior Makana Burch (Washougal, Wash.) won her first match in the individual sabre tournament before fallling in the quarterfinals. Chao placed ninth overall. Both Burch and Chao were recognized on the EWFC Second Team All-Conference for sabre. 

Next up, Blue will take part in the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC) Championships on Saturday, February 24 at MIT.
