Golf Records 11-Stroke Improvement to Close Jack Leaman Invite

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College golf team wrapped up play at the 2014 Jack Leaman Invitational by dropping 11 strokes from their day one total to finish in 11th place overall.

The Blue opened the two-day event by shooting a 374. Wellesley then shot a 363 on day two, recording a total of 737, just three strokes behind 10th-place Vassar College. 

Ithaca and Williams tied for the team title at the event, each shooting totals of 644. Merrimack College was third with a 649 total.

Senior
Alexandra Fuiks was Wellesley's top finisher, using consistant play to record rounds of 89 and 90. She ranked 46th overall with a 179 total in the 87-golfer field. Junior Alexandria Lee also recorded a top-50 performance, carding scores of 89 and 94 to finish with a 183, good for 49th place.

Behind Lee and Fuiks, Wellesley sophomore
 Lei Wei and first-year Jacqueline Lu were the reason for the team's day-two improvement. Wei lowered her day one total by nine strokes, while Lu improved by eight. The pair finished in 58th (Wei - 98-89) and 61st (Lu - 98-90) places.

Rounding out the Blue golfers at the event, senior Haneen Anbarserri shot identical rounds of 103 to rank 73rd overall.

Williams' Georgiana Salant earned medalist honors at the event , finishing with a two-day total of 149 (72-77). Ithaca's Sharon Li (76-77-- 153) and Merrimack's Ali Reed (82-74-- 153) rounded out the top finishers.

Wellesley is back in action at the 2014 Liberty League Championships, hosted by the Blue. The two day event is taking place at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, Mass. on April 26th and 27th.
