Lee Hole in One Highlights Liberty League Championship for Blue Golf

BERNARDSTON, Mass. -- Wellesley College junior Alexandria Lee recorded her first career hole-in-one as the Wellesley College golf team finished fourth overall at the 2014 Liberty League Women's Golf Championships. The two-day event was hosted by Wellesley at the par-72, 5,824-yard Crumpin-Fox Club.

Lee became just the second player in Wellesley golf history to record a hole-in-one, by acing the third hole (146-yards) in Saturday's first round. The junior finished the tournament tied for 17th place overall, recording rounds of 95 and 93 to finish with a 188. 

Blue first-year
Jacqueline Lu was the team's highest finisher at the event, tying for 14th overall. The rookie shot carded scores of 87 and 97 and finished with a two-day total of 184.

Wellesley's
Alexandra Fuiks tied Lee in 17th, after shaving six strokes off of her day one total. The senior shot a 97 on day one and then improved to a 91 on day two, finishing with a 188. Senior Lindsey Shepardson ended the tournament with a 189 to tie for 20th place, shooting rounds of 93 and 96 for a 189 total. Wrapping up the individual finishes for the Blue, sophomore Lei Wei shot a 97 and a 95 to end the day in 24th with a 192.

All five of Wellesley's golfers finished in the top 24 of the 35-golfer field. As a team, the Blue compiled a two-day total of 747, shooting rounds of 372 and 375. Wellesley held off a day two-char by Vassar College, maintaining their lead to top the fifth-place Brewers by seven strokes. 

Mount Holyoke used a stroke day two to surpass day-one leader, NYU, to earn their first ever Liberty League title. The Lyons shot rounds of 341 and 331 to finish with a 672. NYU held on for second with a 693, while St. Lawrence University finished third with a 714. William Smith (796), and Union (946) rounded out the seven-team tournament.

Individually, St. Lawrence's Claire O'Neil earned medalist honors, shooting rounds of 76 and 84 to finish with a 180. NYU's Kristina Shalhoup and Mount Holyoke's Madi Mendiola tied for second, shooting identical totals of 181, one stroke off the leader.

The 2014 Liberty League Championship marked the end of the season for the Wellesley golf team.
