Wellesley Golf Competes at NYU Invitational

SUFFERN, N.Y. - The Wellesley College golf team opened its 2014-15 tournament schedule by competing at the NYU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The event was held at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course.

The Blue finished 11th overall, carding team scores of 361 and 364. Host NYU took the team title at its own event, recording scores of 320 and 300 to out-pace runner-up Mount Holyoke by 19 strokes.

Individually, Wellesley was led by Lei Wei who recorded a top-25 finish. The junior carded rounds of 84 and 88 to rank 24th in the 63-golfer field. 

Sophomore Jacqueline Lu and first-year Maya Muldowney were the Blue's next finishers. Both golfers had a consistent tournament, turning in a score of 91 in each round to tie for 39th overall.

Wellesley senior Haneen Anbarserri shaved one stroke off her day one 95 to end with a 94 and a 52nd place finish. Rounding out the Wellesley finishers, first-year Emily Smith recorded the largest day two improvement, shaving 11 strokes off of her day one total to rank 58th overall.

The Blue golf team is back in action at the two-day Mount Holyoke Invitational next weekend. The event will take place at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass.
