Blue Golf Takes Third at Wesleyan Invitational, Hou Finishes as Individual Runner-up

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. - Wellesley College golf finished third at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sunday at the Lyman Orchards Golf Club. Blue first year Emily Hou (San Ramon, Calif.) was the individual runner-up, finishing at +16 (160) on the weekend following a final round 76. 

Bates College finished in first with a total of 656 strokes, followed by host Wesleyan's "A" team (669) and Wellesley (672). The Blue were trailed by Stonehill (687), Wesleyan "B" (698), Trinity (CT) (752), and Vassar (782). Ruby Haylock (Hartford, Maine) of Bates finished with a score of 153 to earn individual medalist honors.

Wellesley finished play on Saturday with a team score of 339, only nine strokes behind Bates, and in third place. Sophomore Elizabeth Kim (Riverside, Calif.) led the Blue on Saturday with an 82 while Hou and classmate Lucia Chen (Horseheads, N.Y.) helped pace Wellesley with a pair of 84s. 

Wellesley entered play on Sunday in third place, trailing Bates and host Wesleyan, and finished the tournament in the same position. Hou posted the second best round of the weekend, shooting a 76 to clinch runner-up honors. Kim shot an 84, tying her for fifth overall, while Chen shot an 88 to finish 14th overall with a score of 172.

First year Ashley Cong (Troy, Mich.) shot an 89 Saturday and an 87 Sunday, while sophomore Norah Catlin (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) bounced back from a 93 on Saturday with an 86 on Sunday to round out the team competition. Also competing for Wellesley, sophomore Julianna Escobedo (Bakersfield, Calif.) shot an 87 on both days, tying her for 17th overall. 

The Blue will take part in next weekend's Williams Invitational, which takes place at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
