Wellesley Lacrosse Falls to Drew, 18-15

MADISON, N.J. – The Wellesley College lacrosse team dropped a tight 18-15 game at the hands of Drew University on Monday. The Rangers, winners of their last four games, improve to 4-3 on the season, while Wellesley falls to 1-4.

Wellesley jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with scores from Claire Canty, Meredith Roy and Allison Robbins. Drew answered back with two straight from Aileen Musynske to cut the lead to 3-2 before another Canty score made it 4-2 Blue with 15:23 to play in the half.

Drew went on a tear, scoring the game's next four goals, as Kyrsta Cento and Lindsay Fry each tallied solo scores and Lyndsay Rossi scored twice to give Drew a 6-4 advantage with 9:12 remaining.

Wellesley added two scores from Brit Mscisz to tie the game at 6-6, before the Rangers' Fry scored with 25 seconds left in the half to give Drew a 7-6 lead at the break.

Wellesley fought back, as the two teams tied the game four times over a 15 minute span.  

The Rangers opened up their largest lead of the contest midway through the second half, holding a 12-9 advantage with 20 minutes remaining in the game. The run helped the Rangers fight off the Blue who scored seven more goals in the half. Drew matched Wellesley goal-for-goal over the final 10 minutes of play to earn the victory.

For Drew, Krysta Cento and Lyndsay Fry each had three goals to lead the Rangers offense. Nikki Kleiman scored two goals while sophomore Brooke Gagliano also added a goal and a pair of assists.

Also for the Rangers, Fry matched a career-high 12 draw controls. Drew held a 20-15 advantage in draw controls on the day.

Mscisz and Canty each recorded six-point games to lead the Wellesley attack. Mscisz tallied five goals and an assist, while Canty scored three times and added three helpers. Meagan Fuchs picked up three goals, while Roy added two.

Robbins led Wellesley off the draw, recording eight draw controls, while Roy picked up four. Kate Lonergan paced the defense with two caused turnovers.

Both goalkeeper were solid, as Blue netminder Tori Hysko stopped 17 shots while her counterpart Christiana Carlini made a career-high 13 saves.

Wellesley is back in action on its spring break trip on Wednesday. The Blue will travel to Muhlenberg for a 4:00 p.m. contest. Drew will be home again on Saturday afternoon when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 12:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
