WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Eleanor Mallett (Berwick, Maine) tallied four goals to lead the Wellesley lacrosse team to a 16-5 victory over Curry College at Butler Stadium. The game was called after three quarters of play due to inclement weather.

Mallett added three assists and scored four goals on six total shots. Senior Izzy Burdick (Scarborough, Maine) and junior Liz Sugg (Palermo, Maine) each added a hat trick for the Blue. First year Ashley You (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and senior Zoe Reynolds (Downers Grove, Ill.) each collected a pair of goals. Rounding out the scoring was first year Julee Sharma (Lake Mary, Fla.) and sophomore Gabrielle Shell (Upper Arlington, Ohio) who each scored one goal.

For Curry, sophomore Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.) netted two goals on four shots. Teammate Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) matched her with a pair of goals and added three ground balls. Senior Sharon Doherty (Easton, Mass.) added the fifth goal for the Colonels.

The Blue were able to strike first after You cut through the Colonel defense to score an unassisted goal. It was the first goal of the season and career for the first year. Curry quickly responded after Chevrier tied the game on a free position goal. After a turnover caused by You, Mallett delivered a beautiful pass to Shell who took care of the rest. The first collegiate goal for Shell came at the 7:07 mark in the first quarter and gave Wellesley a 2-1 lead. The Colonels would once again have an answer with Chevrier scoring her seventh goal of the season and tying the game at 2-2.

Wellesley would score the next four goals of the contest in just under a three minute span. Sugg netted the first goal, followed by Mallett, Burdick, and Reynolds. The Colonels would get one back after Doherty scored a goal assisted by Chevier, but the Blue took a 7-3 lead after Burdick scored just before the quarter ended. Curry opened up the second quarter with a quick goal scored by Santaniello on a free position shot. The Blue responded with goals by Mallett and Sugg to take a 9-4 lead into halftime.

The Blue opened up the third with five consecutive goals to extend its lead to 10. Mallett collected her third and fourth goal in the frame and Sharma, Sugg, and Reynolds each got on the board. The Colonels would add its fifth and final goal at the 5:53 mark off a Santaniello free position shot. Burdick then completed her hat trick followed by a You score, as the Blue took control 16-5. The game was then ended after the third quarter due to inclement weather.

Goalkeeper Lorna Li (Taunton, Mass.) earned the win and made three saves. Fellow Wellesley keeper Hannah Pangborn (Raleigh, N.C.) played the second quarter and made one save. Curry keeper Jess Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) made three saves in the loss.

The Blue remain at Butler Stadium to host New England College on Saturday, March 12 at noon. Curry will next play on Thursday, March 17 at Savannah College of Art and Design starting at 10:00 AM.
