Blue Lacrosse Falls to Springfield, 17-4

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Senior Carlee Crispens (Wallingford, Conn.) scored a game-high four goals and classmate Arielle Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) added three goals and two assists as visiting Springfield College cruised to a 17-4 victory over Wellesley College lacrosse in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday evening at Butler Stadium.

The Pride (9-6 Overall, 5-2 NEWMAC) outshot Wellesley 33-15, with Springfield winning 20 draw controls. The Blue (4-10 Overall, 2-5 NEWMAC) scooped 26 ground balls to Springfield's 25. 

Sophomore Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) added a hat-trick and an assist for the Pride while senior Lauren Landino (South Windsor, Conn.) had a pair of goals and assists. Senior Gianna Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won seven draw controls while classmate Emily McDermott (Marshfield, Mass.) stopped four shots in goal.

First year Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) was the big scorer for Wellesley with three goals while junior Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) added a goal and senior Liz Sugg (Palermo, Maine) had an assist. McGough and sophomore Julee Sharma (Lake Mary, Fla.) each caused three turnovers and senior Hannah Pangborn (Raleigh, N.C.) saved four shots. 

Andresen, Crispens, and Landino combined for five first quarter goals for Springfield, with Landino, Anderson, and junior Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) each recording an assist. 

The Pride ran the lead to 7-0 in the second quarter before Tipton found the back of the net for the Blue. Andresen scored two more goals in the second as Springfield led 11-1 at halftime. 

After an early Springfield goal in the third from first year Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.), Tipton tallied back-to-back goals for Wellesley. Hibbert scored a late third quarter goal to push Springfield's lead to 13-3.

Johnson fired home a pair of goals for the Pride in the fourth while McGough found the net for the Blue. A late pair of goals from Springfield finished off a 17-4 game.

The Blue travel to Mount Holyoke on Saturday for a NEWMAC game at 1:00 PM. The Pride host Wheaton in their own NEWMAC contest at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
