WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Lauren Schoenberger, Head Lacrosse Coach and Associate Professor of the Practice in the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (PERA) at Wellesley College has stepped down from her position, announced Bethany Ellis, Director of Athletics and Chair of the PERA Department.

Schoenberger joined Wellesley in July 2015. In seven seasons at the helm of the Blue lacrosse program, Schoenberger amassed a record of 36-65, guiding the Blue to the NEWMAC Tournament in both 2016 and 2017 and advancing to the semifinals in 2017. In addition to coaching the lacrosse program, Schoenberger worked extensively with the Wellesley Athletics Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the LeadBLUE program and the Athlete Mentor Program.

"I want to thank Lauren, not only for her guidance of the lacrosse program, but for the effort she put forward working with student-athletes from across the department during her time at Wellesley," said Ellis. "Lauren was always thoughtful in her execution of programming and undoubtedly committed to improving the student-athlete experience. I wish her the best of luck as she moves on from Wellesley."

Schoenberger joined Wellesley after spending three seasons at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., where she served as a graduate assistant coach during the 2013 season before joining head coach Shannon McHale's staff as a full-time assistant in 2014. Schoenberger helped guide the Bombers to a record of 35-20 over three seasons, making three consecutive appearances in the Empire 8 Championship Game. That success helped Schoenberger and the IC coaching staff earn back-to-back Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year Awards in 2013 and 2014.

I've truly appreciated my time at Wellesley, and the valuable experience it has afforded me, said Schoenberger. "I wish the program much success in the future. Go Blue!"

A 2012 graduate of American University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Schoenberger was a four-year member of the Eagles' lacrosse program, serving as associate captain during the 2009-2010 season. She earned a place on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in both 2009 and 2010 and a spot on the Patriot League All-Academic Team in 2011. An active member of SAAC from 2009-2012, Schoenberger was SAAC President during the 2011-12 academic year as well as a student-athlete representative on the Alcohol and Other Drug Task Force Committee.

A member of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse, Schoenberger received her Master's in Exercise and Sport Science-Sport Psychology from Ithaca College in 2015.

A national search for Wellesley's next head lacrosse coach is already underway.
