Blue Lacrosse Falls to Wheaton

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College lacrosse fell 17-2 to Wheaton College in a NEWMAC game at Butler Stadium on Wednesday.

Junior Lara Finnie (Westfield, Mass.) produced five goals and two assists for the Lyons (7-4 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC). Sophomore Riley Kilbourn (Madison, Conn.) added four and three assists. Classmate Jessica Chamberlain (Bow, N.H.) contributed a pair of goals and assists. Senior Avonlea LeBeau (North Branford, Conn.) won a game-high 11 draw controls. Sophomore goalie Katie Geis (Duxbury, Mass.) stopped five out of seven shots faced.

Sophomore Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) scored both goals for the Blue (2-8 Overall, 0-4 NEWMAC). Junior Ryan Boone (Scotch Plains, N.J.) grabbed five ground balls. Sophomore Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) earned five saves. Junior Cianna Salvatora (Pittsburgh, Pa.) registered five saves.

The Lyons scored eight unanswered goals in the first quarter to take a commanding lead. Wheaton outscored Wellesley 3-2 in the second quarter to go up 11-2 at the end of one half. The Lyons tacked three more goals in both the third and fourth quarters.

Wheaton outshot Wellesley 32-13. The Lyons won 19-of-23 draw controls and went 4-for-10 on free position shots.

The Blue will host Emerson at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 6. The Lyons are at home against Springfield at the same time.
