Springfield Beats Blue Lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Wellesley College lacrosse fell 26-5 to Springfield College in a NEWMAC game on Saturday at Stagg Field.

Junior Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) combined for nine goals for the Pride (12-2 Overall, 6-0 NEWMAC). Grad student Arielle Johnson (Pomfret, Conn.) recorded four assists. Classmate Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) caused a game-high five turnovers. Seniors Colleen Browne (Westford, Mass.) and Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) combined for three saves.

Sophomore Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) scored a hat-trick and won four draw controls for the Blue (2-11 Overall, 0-6 NEWMAC). Tipton leads Wellesley with 43 goals this season. Seniors Gabrielle Shell (Columbus, Ohio) and Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) each added a goal for the Blue. Sophomore Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) tied a career-high with 14 saves.

The teams traded goals early on, before Springfield scored a pair of unanswered goals to go up 5-2 after one quarter.

The Pride upped the lead to 10-4 by halftime, with Andresen scoring two goals in the final 4:30 of the half. 

An 8-0 run in the third quarter put Springfield up 19-5 after three quarter of action. The Pride added seven more tallies in the fourth to win 26-5.

Springfield took 56 shots while limiting Wellesley to 10. The Pride won 26 of 32 draw controls. The Blue were successful on 2-of-3 free position shots.

The Blue are at Coast Guard for a 5:00 PM game on Wednesday, April 17. The Pride will host MIT at 6:00 PM that same day.
