Wellesley Lacrosse Stopped By Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley College lacrosse fell 23-3 on the road in a NEWMAC game at Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday.

Junior Caitlyn Coates (Hanover, Pa.) recorded eight points (six goals, two assists) to lead the Bears (10-4 Overall, 5-3 NEWMAC). Sophomore Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) added four goals and three assists. Senior Sarah Skurat (Marlboro, N.J.) registered a pair of goals and a trio of assists. Classmate Mia Becker (Hudson, Ohio) won a game-high 10 draw controls. Goalies Devon McCue (Annapolis, Md.) and Maici Mintchwarner (Cream Ridge, N.J.) combined for five saves.

Sophomore Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) found the back of the goal on three occasions for the Blue (2-12 Overall, 0-8 NEWMAC). Tipton caused a pair of turnovers. Sophomore goalie Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) sent back nine shots.

The Bears scored eight unanswered goals in the first quarter to gain firm control of the lead. Coast Guard's lead swelled to 12 before Tipton put in a pair of goals. 

Coast Guard outscored Wellesley 5-1 in the third quarter to bring the score up to 17-3. The Bears registered six goals in the fourth quarter to finish the game up 23-3.

The Blue return home to host senior day at 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 20 against Mount Holyoke. The Bears travel to Wheaton for a 4:00 PM game that same day.
