Wellesley Soccer Powers Past Mount Holyoke

Led by sophomore midfielder Chelsea-Ann Patry, the Wellesley College women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. Patry figured in on two goals, scoring once and assisting on another.

Both sides went scoreless until the 42:16 mark, when Patry set up sophomore midfielder Jennifer Marble for what proved to be the winner. Patry tallied an unassisted goal at 52:47 mark to push the Blue's cushion to 2-0. Her team then put things out of reach five seconds later, when first year midfielder Ariel Chao found the back of the net.

Wellesley outshot the Lyons 23-7 and finished with a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Gray (Montclair, VA) needed to make just one save en route to the shutout. At the other end, senior Elaine Harvey (Boston, MA) and first year Emily Shank (Northfield, MN) combined for 10 stops.

Sophomore midfielder Mallory Phaneuf (Manchester, NN) led Mount Holyoke with four shots.

Both squads will return to action on Wednesday. Mount Holyoke (0-5-1, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) will travel to Union College for a match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Wellesley (4-3-1, 0-0-1) will entertain Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m.
