Clark Spoils Senior Day for Wellesley Soccer

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- A late goal from Clark University's Kristen Murrone spoiled senior day for the Wellesley soccer team, as the Cougars downed the Blue, 1-0, in Saturday afternoon New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Murrone was situated at the right post in the 85th minute when a through ball from Allison Kennelly was passed to Lucia Pantuosco.  Wellesley keeper Sarah Gray pulled out to defend Pantuosco, but the Clark forward found Murrone, who tapped it into the back of the net for the game's only goal.

After Wellesley outshot Clark 9-4 in the first half, the Cougars turned things around in the second, posted an 8-2 advantage in shots, shifting the overall shot total to 12-11 in favor of the visitors.

Wellesley's best chance came to score in the 27th minute of play as Chelsea-Ann Patry found herself less than five yards out with a one-on-one with Clark keeper Joanna Clark.  Patry launched a high shot that looked to be going in, but Clark made a leaping save to preserve the 0-0 tie.

Clark finished with four saves for the Cougars, all coming in the first half.  Wellesley's Gray recorded five total stops.

The result ends the season for Clark, who finishes with a 7-10 overall record. Wellesley now moves on to the NEWMAC playoffs, likely the sixth seed.  Full brackets will be announced later tonight at http://www.newmacsports.com/.
